April 11, 2011 Update – Delays & Cases

11 April 2011 2 Comments

So, on Friday, my “4 week” delivery time for our iPads unceremoniously became a “7 week” delivery time (on or before May 13th.) Hmmmph. Just please no more delays, ok, Apple? On the other hand, we DO already have a stack o’ iTunes gift cards & a pile of VGA adapters….but somehow without the iPads themselves, it’s just not as much fun!

I’m now tackling the dilemma of what to do about cases. It seems that I am not the only one! I really like the case I have for my original iPad – the standard one directly from Apple. When they first came out, the early adopters on some of my listservs all pretty unanimously recommended that one & I think it was a good choice. Unfortunately, those don’t work with the iPad 2; it’s thinner & there’s that pesky camera on the back that would get blocked by the case. I can’t find anything to indicate that Apple is going to produce a traditional case for the iPad 2; it seems like they are backing their Smart Cover exclusively. It’s cool, alright, but I can’t help but feel like it doesn’t do enough to protect the iPad itself. There are certainly plenty of options (25 right here!) & surely more to come. But time’s a ticking. Anyone out there have any good recommendations?

I bought an iPad 2 back in early April and ordered the booqpad cover (paper notepad included), which is mentioned on the Mashable site you linked. I really love the case; the notepad makes the whole device much more useful for me and protects it well enough for my purposes. Looks more like a calendar than an electronic device (i.e., doesn’t scream “steal me”). However, it’s not industrial strength–I try to avoid tossing the thing around or letting stuff pile on top of it. I also bought an Apple dock that lets me keep the iPad upright on my desk if I’m ensconced for awhile (it charges it, too), and that’s very useful. Let me know if anyone would like to see either device!
